Hallick’s POV
My muscles bunch as soon as Mackenzie asks to speak to me in private, alarms going off in my head the more that the baker deflects Seona’s questioning about why.
As the blonde woman hurries to wash her hands, Mackenzie leans closer to me, her voice urgent as her gaze flicks from my charge to her son.
‘It might be nothing Hallick, but I’d rather mention it and be wrong than not and be right’ she mutters quickly before straightening up, her smile back in place as Seona approaches us again cautiously.
I turn to face her, already feeling the familiar band around my lungs at the thought of this woman being out of my sight again.
‘Do not leave the kitchen, do not open the back door. I will be less than five minutes and will only be on the other side of the door there, if you need……
