Mackenzie's POV
I don’t know what to say to the scared woman in front of me, whether I should reach out and touch the woman or keep my hands to myself, indecisiveness tying me in knots, as fear flickers across her face.
‘I knew it was coming’ she whispers, ‘I was ready, wanted to see him pay for what he did to me . . ‘ She swallows thickly, ‘but . . . now . . it’s so real. I’m going to have to sit in the court room, recount exactly what happened, what he did while he stares at me.’
Her gaze moves to my own, vulnerable and unsure, ‘what if I can’t do it?’ she asks me quietly. ‘What if I get to the court and I can’t go in? What if I do and the defence convinces the jury that I’m lying, that it didn’t happen? He’d walk free Kenzie, he’d get away with what he did and I’ll be the woman w……
