Mackenzie’s POV
The elevator up to Callan’s apartment is sleek and silent, and I clutch my son tightly to me as I stand next to the strong security man who stares at the doors intensely. I glance at him from the corner of my eye, his whole demeanour has changed since we left my bakery. At first I thought it was the adrenaline of the break in, heaven knows that I’ve been trembling since the alarm went off. The problem is that unlike my own fear, Callan’s seemed to increase rather than decrease, the longer that we were in the truck.
When he pulled into a parking spot he almost jumped out of the car, slamming the door hard enough to wake Maxton who jerked away, his bottom lip trembling as I hurried out of my seat and into the back of the vehicle to get him out.
Cradling my son to my chest……
