The dungeon locks gave a loud clattering sound, and Evander sloely looked up. He was lying on the floor in the tattered clothes that Lucan had left him in, his eyes weak from starvation and thirst, his hands sprawled on either side of him.
The lock finally gave way, and the heavy doors pushed open to reveal a tall, muscular soldier.
Evander gave a small sigh, his eyes closing briefly.
"I shall take you to the residence of the minister of war, so you can discuss."
Evander nodded. The minister of War. The same man who had promised that he would have Lucan's head.
He pushed himself up to sit, then turned to the soldier. "Does this mean he accepts my pledge of allegiance?"
"He needs as much enemies of His Majesty as he can get. An enemy of an enemy is a friend."
