Adeline's eyes fluttered open, and she turned slowly towards the faint sound of even breathing next to her. She felt weak but a lot better, and her brows furrowed as her eyes fell in Lucan's brown locks.
He was sitting in a stool next to her bed, and his back was straight as he rested in the edge of the bed right next to her waist.
She could not see much more of him, but the fact that he was there alone was such a huge surprise. She had expected that he would take her back and let his physicians take care of it since, in the end, he had no use for her while she was indisposed.
"Lucan?"
He did not move at first, his stature still, his breaths even and undisturbed.
"Lucan," she said more assertively this time, and he stirred, then slowly moved away from the bed. He woke up, his brows furrowed, hi……
