Evander turned to Adeline, then broke into a laugh, his dagger still held on to Lucan's back.
"You seem to care awfully much about a man who killed your father."
"I do not see a reason for you to be so concerned about a woman who could very much kill you right here and now."
He laughed again, his eyes thin. "That is a very quick change. Do you not agree, Adeline. It was not so long ago that you were pleading to marry me."
"It was not too long ago when you tried to force yourself on me like an animal," she spat, moving the arrow a little deeper, just enough for it to pierce skin and draw blood.
"How dare you?"
Lucan could barely follow the conversation. His eyes were focused on Adeline. The wild way her hair was falling down her back, apparently broken from the knot she had put it on. The rather ……
