Adeline's breath faltered, her eyes fixed almost irresistibly on Lucan's, a very treacherous memory of last night quickly colouring the blank slate that her mind could have been.
Lucan blinked, his eyes a little wider, his pupils so dilated that it felt like the white part of his eye was completely covered.
He slowly leaned back, bringing her with him, till she was standing on her feet, her heart hammering loudly in her chest.
"Your Majesty," she said in a small whisper, her lips parting. "I... I was going to, uhm..."
He watched her calmly, his eyes taking in the beads of perspiration that had formed on her forehead and the slight tremble in her lips.
He did not know what to tell her because she was exactly the way he felt. Jittery, yet calm. Anxious, yet peaceful. It was like she was pushing ……
