Adeline watched the lights flicker in her tent, her chest slightly heaving. She could not get the image of Lucan out of her head. From the day she had first met him to the day he had conquered Corvalon to the day he had almost lost his mind seeing her in a skimpy dress.
She had always thought his reaction had been more than just his anger and embarrassment because in the end, Lucan feared no one, and neither did he care what anyone thought of him or his choices. That was why he was so comfortable with doing whatever he wanted, without any significant opposition.
She never could have thought that seeing her in a dress like that could trigger memories that he did not want triggered. She did not realize that his reaction, seeing it, had come from a place of pain more than that of embarrassment.……
