Lucan's fingers slowly dropped from the reins of the horse, his chest heaving hard. When did Adeline start to have this dizzying, knee numbing effect? How had he not realized till she was right here, on her knees, the rain framing her already perfect face?
Adeline took in a deep breath, her eyes locking with Lucan's. She had always been the only woman to be able to look him in the blue spirals of his eyes.
"I realized... that for a sinner like me, I need to attain forgiveness. I would rather die in Vahrenhall than walk away, the guilt of what I have done weighing down on my soul."
