Adeline remained in the carriage for a few more minutes, her eyes focused on Lucan's back as he walked away, and then on the path he seemed to always take away from her the minute he let himself get too close.
Not like she wanted him close. She still believed he was a monster. He was not denying that. He was a monster. But now she had one less reason to despise him, and maybe, just maybe, it had made her so much softer.
She finally got down from the carriage, and her eyes immediately scanned the faces of the servants that were still in standby. Evander was not amongst them.
With a sigh, she walked away, heading straight to her chambers.
It was warm, and without so much as a minute, she got out of the dress she was wearing and let it go on the floor, including the cloak that Kucan had given her……
