Adeline turned away, closing her eyes for a moment. She did not reply, and Lucan simply adjusted his head on her shoulder, then let out a sigh.
"I never did express my gratitude to you for saving my life. It was the last thing I expected that you would ever do for me, and I am in your debt. You can ask anything of me except for freedom because that is something I will not be able to give. And..."
"I want silence," Adeline said, her voice low.
Lucan gave a small chuckle, then slowly adjusted. "As you wish."
He closed his eyes, but her shoulder was far too slender, and he found himself adjusting yet again. Adeline gave a small sigh and grabbed his head, and without a word, she rested him on her lap, then leaned back.
He smiled to himself as he made himself comfortable, his eyes opening briefly to……
