A searing pain ripped through her chest. Beth screamed over and over, Dean’s body was getting colder in her arms. Her eyes bloodshot from the force of her grief, she looked at the brown wolf she had loved with all her heart and soul. How could she go through this again? Her sobs turned to panic, and she felt her throat closing, struggling to breathe. She started gasping through her tears.
Warm arms wrapped around her. Holding her. Marianne!
“Breathe with me, in two three four, out two three four.”
The calming rhythm wasn’t working. Beth started clawing at her throat. So tight that it hurt. Black dots swam before her eyes. The darkness overwhelmed her, and she went limp in Marianne’s arms.
“She’s passed out.” Marianne looked up at the others with tears streaming……
