The mountains rolled by past the window as the car made its way back to the Silver Lake pack.
Beth hadn’t said a word for the whole journey, and Helena wasn’t sure what else to say to her.
The redhead looked small and frail, and Helena couldn’t remember the last time she saw her eat.
She looked down at her hands. Jackson was riding in the other car again. It was for Beth’s sake, but Helena couldn’t help wishing that he was here. He had an easy way of talking, that helped conversation flow.
She glanced at Beth, she was still staring out of the window. Her expression blank. Helena hoped that it was a good sign that she had stopped crying, but maybe it was just a sign that she had completely broken.
The familiar site of Silver Lake’s gates came into view and Helena let out a sigh of……
