We finally stopped. It took them about 45 minutes of steady driving to arrive at the location. The only area that allowed such a flowing ride was in the northern direction from the office. The rest would have been a bumpy ride, full of stoplights and traffic, so we must have been going north.
They picked me up and pulled me to my feet. My face was still covered, and I could only hear the crunch of gravel. We were in a pebbled parking lot or driveway. Since I was denied sight, I did my best to heighten all my other senses. I could smell a funny smell, burning coal, burning wood... something along those lines. I tried to relax; being as casual and unapologetic as possible would serve me best.
Then I heard the noise of a rusty metal door being slid, and stale cold air filled my lungs. T……
