I was at work that Wednesday afternoon when my phone rang, startling me. I glanced at the caller ID and saw that it was an international number from Germany. Curiosity piqued, I answered the call, half-expecting it to be a wrong number or a telemarketer.
"Hello?" I said tentatively.
"Good afternoon, Amanda. This is Markus calling from Germany," a man's voice replied.
My heart skipped a beat. I couldn't believe it. I had recently applied for a job at a multinational company based in Germany, and now it seemed like my application had caught their attention. I thought I was seeing things, but as I spoke with Markus, I realized it was real.
