“WITH A HEAVY SIGH, I went and got my backpack, deciding to talk to Alice later. I was not a morning person at the best of times, and I couldn’t muster the energy to argue with Mason now. Besides, the passenger seat in his car was much more comfortable than sitting on the bus, although I tended to space out on the way to school regardless.
The sudden appearance of Mason’s face right in front of mine startled me and got my heart racing. “We’re here,” he announced softly, in contrast to his aggressive, in-your-face move.
