“He got quiet after that though. When he stabbed at the button to turn on the radio, I got the impression that he wanted a distraction. It was what I needed too, and it helped shift my focus to something safe. When one of my favorite songs came on, my distraction became enjoyment. I silently mouthed the words to Believer.
“I like this song too,” Mason remarked, “and this band.”
“You do?” I asked in surprise. I hadn’t ever imagined him liking this kind of music. Maybe something with a pounding, sexually charged beat, but not the introspective, emotionally infused lyrics of Imagine Dragons. Also, he was so callous and quick to judge that I couldn’t imagine him being any kind of a believer.
“Yeah,” he said, “they’re good.”
“Have you ever seen them in concert?” I queried curiously, interest……
