Chapter 4

Maddox POV

We all went our separate ways after the meeting and Kurt and I went to a local diner to get something to eat. I am not one for big fancy places. Give me a good old fashioned hamburger and fries any day and I will be a happy man. Diner food always tastes better to me. As we enjoy our meal Kurt proceeds to tell me about this party he overheard some of the students talking about. It sounded like a good place to see if we can find our mates.

“So what do you think? Are we going to crash a highschool party tonight?” Kurt said, wiggling his eyebrows like the i***t he can be causing me to laugh.

“Sure, why not? That is the other reason we are here right? What better place to find our potential mates than a school designed for all of the species. Seems like a no brainer to me.” I responded back. Good thing we aren’t in a human town. They would think we were a bunch of pervs wanting to crash a high school party to look for girls. Instead of just two guys looking for their soulmates.

We finish eating and head out. I decided to go to one of the thrift stores and see if I could pick out some more casual clothing. I am sure that the omegas were trying to be helpful and only packed business attire. I don’t get to dress casually all that often. I am in my office working more than anything else.

While I am browsing the clothes I can’t help but overhear a conversation a young woman is having on the phone. “Ari, babe, come on. You need to get out of this funk you are in. He was a major douche that never deserved the gem that you are. Stop hiding away from the world because you don’t want to have to face him. No, I will not let this go. Arianna I swear if I have to go to your dorm room and drag that fine ass to this party tonight I will. It’s the last night you will get to be just you. I just know tomorrow you will find your mate and then he will take you away from me. So if you won’t do this for yourself. Do it for me. YES! You won’t regret this. No, don’t worry about finding something to wear. I already have it picked out for you. Duh, how could I let my best friend not be dolled up on her birthday. Yeah yeah I know it is tomorrow, but at midnight tonight you turn 18 so technically it will be your birthday. You love me and you know it. I’ll see you soon. Go take a shower and I will be there by the time you are done. Kisses.”

She hangs up the phone and is muttering to herself. I can just barely make it out, “I swear that prick better hope I don’t see him tonight. He had the best woman ever and he went and fu.cked it up cause he couldn’t keep that damn pathetic co.ck in his pants. Trust me it is….” That was all I could make out as she walked away in a hurry. Sounds like some typical high school drama to me. King however was intent on listening to as much as possible. I could feel him trying to strain our senses to listen to everything the girl had to say.

“King, what’s up with you man? You have been acting weird ever since we got to the academy.” I asked him.

“I don’t know Madd. I just feel like whatever that girl was talking about was important to us somehow. I feel like something huge is about to happen to us. Really really soon.” King said back to me and then went to lay down in the back of my mind.

I shook it off and continued to shop. There wasn’t much I could do about it. I am not going to stalk some girl because my wolf feels like the things she is saying are important. Animals. Always relying on instinct and forgetting about morals and manners.

We’ve been at this party for a while now and there are no scents catching my attention. Kurt and I are standing just to the side of the back door getting some fresh air. When I hear the same girl from the thrift store screaming at some guy saying, “You fu.cking as.shole! What did you say to her? You just couldn’t be the decent guy we once knew for one damn night could you? Did you forget what tonight is Aaron? You did? Well let me tell you. Her birthday is in fifteen minutes you as.shole and then she will be able to sense her mate, but probably not now that she is wasted on wolfsbane laced alcohol. Did you ever care for her in the two years you were dating or the seventeen years of friendship? You are pathetic.”

She shoves him in his shoulder and storms off. I turn to Kurt and see him inhaling large amounts of air into his lungs, and his eyes are laser focused on the girl. I am shocked when I hear him growl, “MINE!” Even more so when she looks at him with big wide eyes and then she runs away from him causing my beta to give chase. I don’t think she realizes the mistake she just made. Lycans love nothing more than a good chase, and chasing one's mate is the best chase one could have been gifted with. Kurt turns to me and smirks and says, “The little minx thinks she can escape me brother. Should I give her a head start or just catch her right away?” He laughs as he runs and says, “A little head start and then I will pounce on her the moment she thinks she’s safe I think.” Then he was gone.

I decided that I wanted to find a nice place to be alone for a few minutes. I am happy for my friend, but I was hoping that I would have found my mate tonight. Jealousy isn’t a pretty color on me that’s for sure. I make my way into a room at the end of a hall at the top of the stairs. I see it has a private bathroom so go in and splash water onto my face. I stare at myself in the mirror and say to myself, “You need to get a grip man. You should be happy for your best friend. He has waited just as long as you have for his mate. Remember, you can’t rush perfection.”

I sigh, deciding to just head back to the room I am staying in for the night. It was a bust for me, but I am glad Kurt found his mate. Maybe we will be hearing the sounds of little feet running in the castle again. I miss those days when my family was still alive. I mean I have many great nieces and nephews still living with me in the castle. It just isn’t the same as having my sisters and brothers around. That has been the hardest of this life. Watching them grow old and wither away while I stayed looking like an 18 year old.

I take two steps down the back stairwell when King screams out in my mind, “MATE! MADDOX I SMELL MATE! GO FIND HER NOW!!!!!”

I am so excited that I almost trip over my own feet on the stairs and I follow the most alluring scent of pecan, vanilla, and cinnamon. Mmm my mouth is salivating at just the smell of her. I bet she tastes even better. I am surprised to see the scent leads to the room I had just left. I walk in and see the most beautiful girl I had ever laid my eyes upon. I shut and locked the door as I stood watching her. Her large green eyes shone like emeralds in the light. Her hair was black as night with highlights of white or is that silver? Either way it was magnificent. Her curves were what any man would dream of. Just the right amount of breast to fit in your hands. Her thighs were thick and lucious and I couldn’t wait to have them wrapped around my face or my waist.

I watched as she looked me over from head to toe and I watched as she closed her eyes and moaned when she landed on my co.ck straining against the zipper of my pants. ‘Calm down and don’t move! Give her time to adjust before you put poor mate through any more unnecessary pain you buffoon. Always ragging on me for my feral instincts and tendencies and the first time we are with our mate and you go and caveman your way through her innocence.’ King continues to give me hell while I try my hardest to stay as still as possible.

I asked her if she was a virgin and her nod already confirmed what I had deduced. I started to pepper kisses along her face, cleaning up the tears that have escaped from her eyes. My heart breaks a little knowing that I was the cause of those tears. I vow to do my best to not be the cause of her tears of pain ever again.

I stayed still for a few minutes until she started to wiggle. Taking that as my cue to be able to move I start to thrust in and out of her slowly and then slowly increase the speed. She was soon asleep snoring lightly. I watched her as she slept wondering how I had gotten so lucky to be blessed with a mate as beautiful as she. Soon I followed suit, relaxed knowing that my mate and queen was safely laying in my arms. Thoughts of our long future together playing in my dreams.

I was startled out of my sleep by a very persistent mind link. I opened the link up and growled, ‘This had better be important!’

I wasn’t awake enough to know who it was right away. I was wanting to fall back asleep with my mate. The voice of my Beta woke me up enough to take care of what time it was. ‘Well if you consider the meeting with the other leaders and the head of the academy as unimportant then I will leave you alone. However, seeing as it was you who demanded this meeting it seems rather silly to not show up. Don’t you think?’ Kurt said teasingly.

‘s**t! Sorry man. I didn’t realize what time it is. Do I have time to take a shower or do I need to head straight there?’ I asked. I was honestly debating if I even wanted to leave this bed and my mate. King was all for the idea of staying in bed with our mate all day.

‘We have roughly fifteen minutes to get there on time, so if you can get to our room and shower and then come back to the main academy building in that time then go for it. I would recommend using the shower at whoever’s place you managed to land last night and hurry up.’ He quipped back to me.

The cheeky bastard. King didn’t appreciate the way his beta was speaking about his mate, and let out a low growl in mindlink to show his displeasure then said, ‘You will not speak of my mate that way beta. You will show your Luna and queen respect or I will remind you what that looks like pup!’

‘Holy s**t King! You really found her Madd? We have a Luna Queen finally after all these years? Congrats man! I am so happy for you. Maybe that means the rest of us will finally get our mates now.’ Kurt said excitedly. He has been wanting his mate for a long time now.

‘I can only hope you and Jed can experience the mate bond soon. It is amazing man. Give me a few minutes and I will be right there. Send a couple of guards over to keep an eye on your Luna Queen while we are in this meeting, and get Jed here to the academy so he can actually finally do his job.’ I end the link and reluctantly get out of bed. Neither King or I want to leave her here alone, but knowing that our men will be here to watch over her while we are gone helps.

I rummage around the room to find anything to write on and with so I could leave a note. I finally found something and wrote her a note to explain where I went, and explained that there were guards who would escort her to me when she wakes up. I leave the note on the bedside table so that she would see it when she woke up. I quickly dress and leave the room. I wait for a couple of minutes for my guards to show up, but I get an irritated phone call from Vlad wanting to know where the hell I am. I mindlink my men feeling better knowing they were only a few minutes out. I left for my meeting counting down the minutes until I had my mate back in my arms. King growling his approval.
