There were two options for me to choose from. Either, I could stay here and pretend that none of this was wrong, and that Dilara hadn’t been as exhausted as she had been. Or, I could leave and pretend that I had been nothing more than a figment of her imagination.
I didn’t think that it would be easy for me to leave without giving in to the desire to come back, but I also didn’t want to go ahead and cause trouble.
I decided that I was going to make a last attempt at waking her up, and if it failed, then I would take it as a sign that this wasn’t where I was supposed to be. I would have no choice but to go back to the Underworld and spend some time with Persephone—not that she would complain about that.
I couldn’t say that I felt the same about the situation.
