The next few days were a blur.
I’d heard nothing more about the scandal. No one had brought it up again. Not to my face, anyway. The pitying glances had slowed, but the whispers hadn’t stopped. But today—today, I had to focus.
We were heading to Mombasa for a work retreat. A big, important one, apparently. It was supposed to be a mix of business and pleasure, but right now, all I could think about was the lingering silence between Caden and me. I could feel the space between us growing, pushing us further apart.
I didn’t have the luxury of indulging in those thoughts, though. Not now.
“Cora, are you coming?” Eva's voice broke through my musings, and I snapped out of my daze, only then realizing I was still standing by the elevator on the ground floor, fully dressed but lost ……
