Judy brushed my hair gently and held it up in an easy ponytail. She was the one who was moving me from one station to the other.
“Honestly, Cora, you’re acting like you don’t want to dine with your husband.” She’d stated at some point.
But I don’t! I’d thought to myself, I couldn’t have possibly let her hear that.
Truth be told, I was dreading having dinner with him. I was certain my body would betray me. Inasmuch as I didn’t want to think about the future, if our bodies were to get entangled, then without a doubt, my heart would too. That would be a huge liability.
I still couldn’t help but ask; what was the cause of Caden’s change of heart? What could he want from me? I’d been a thorn in his side since the day we met.
