Claire's POV
I'm gonna die behind a goddamn log.
Bullets splintered the wood inches from my face as I pressed my body deeper into the forest floor. My hand throbbed where a bullet had grazed it, blood seeping through my makeshift bandage.
Howls pierced the night as the enforcers Gregory sent fought off Scott's loyalists. Four against eight—not great odds, but better than me alone with just my pistol.
"Stay down!" Talia yelled, sliding into cover beside me. Her sandy hair was matted with blood, her breathing labored.
"No s**t," I snapped, checking my ammunition. Three bullets left. Fantastic.
A bullet whizzed overhead. I ducked lower, mud smearing my face.
"Any bright ideas, wolf girl?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
Talia peered over our log barricade, then ducked back down as gunfire er……
