Damon’s POV.
“Damon!” Kira’s mother shrieks excitedly as she rushes towards me, “Thank the goddess, Damon. You’re safe and you’re home.” She wraps me up in her arms for a bear sized hug even though I am way larger than her.
My father stands awkwardly behind her with a hand on her back. I can tell he is surprised to see me but he is also trying to act like he isn’t.
“I was so worried about you,” she sobbed as her hands travel the length of my back, “Kira would cry herself to sleep every night after you left. How could you do that to us? How could you just leave my that?”
She isn’t my biological mother, mine died as soon as she brought me into the world but Brenda, Kira’s mother has been more than nice to me. I see her as my mother now but her relationship with my father makes it so difficult for the both of us to get closer.
“I am so sorry for that, but I am home now.” I say to her as she takes a step back and looks me over.
“Let me get a good look at you.” She hugs me again before she turns to my father with a heavy frown, “really Scott? You’re just going to stand there like a log of wood? He is your son and you haven’t seen him for the past twelve years.”
She urges him to step forward and my father hesitates but he does, he simply reaches out and taps my shoulder before he turns around and heads back inside.
“Pardon him Damon, things have been really tough on him since you left. He questions his integrity as a father and he wouldn’t stop talking about how he has failed you so this is just too much for him to process right now.” Brenda explains.
I smile at her. She is such a good person that doesn’t deserve a man like my father. She has no idea that he is the wolf that has his claws to her neck while pretending to be a sheep. I have tried to tell her this but I can’t bring myself to, not without evidence.
Plus when I see how happy she is with him, I don’t want to ruin her happiness. Even Kira seems to be okay with him in their lives,
I glance up the stairs in hopes that I would catch a glimpse of her but she isn’t anywhere nearby.
“Kira right,” Brenda places a hand on my shoulder, “she is out with friends but she would be back very soon. You know, tomorrow is her twenty third birthday and also her inauguration so we have a party planned for her, you should come. It’s a surprise party and seeing you there would make it even more special.”
I don’t respond. I feel so disappointed that I don’t get to see her tonight but I am willing to wait for as long as possible to see her again.
After all I waited for twelve years, so what’s a few hours more?
“Come, let me show you to your room. You must be really tired.” She takes my arm and leads me back up the stairs.
Thankfully, she doesn’t take me to my former room because I don’t think I would be able to sleep in that room without those memories returning to haunt me.
“You can spend the night here in the guest room, while I order the maids to clean up your room. You know, Scott always believed you would come back, so he didn’t let anyone touch anything. Everything is still as you left it, just very dusty.” She says as she opens the door to the guest room and leads me inside.
“You don’t have to worry Brenda, this is good.” I reply.
She doesn’t push it though, she leaves me alone to rest and a few hours into the night, I hear footsteps outside my door and I step out just in time to see my father turn down the hallway.
He probably wanted to talk me and changed his mind at the last minute. The relationship between the two of us ever since I found out his secret has gotten really bad and the fact that he has no idea what he did wrong that makes me hate him so much must be frustrating for him.
Well…that’s the price I can make him pay for doing something like that to Brenda and Kira. Also, I can’t bring myself to tell him about it, it would make it true and that would hurt me more than anything else.
I remember the day I found out the truth about what my father did all those years ago, I remember that day so well that it hurts.
That truth has been a weight on my shoulders that I must carry alone ever since. Revealing it would rip the family apart so I decided to leave with it and never return but now that there is a threat on Kira’s life, I might be forced to rip this family apart if that is what I need to do to save Kira.
The next day, I get up early to get some flowers specifically for Kira since I would be attending her surprise party. I try my best to avoid my father throughout the day while I help Brenda set up the event.
I am both nervous and excited to see her again, as the minutes tick past, I contemplate what I could possibly say or do that would make up for the past and make things right between us.
As soon as it’s time, I get dressed and arrive at the event with a bunch of freshly picked roses arranged in a large bouquet that fits into my hand perfectly.
I can only imagine the reaction on her face when she sees me, I can’t wait to surprise her but the longer we all wait for her to arrive, the more apprehensive I become but I don’t leave, I stay.
This time around, I am here to stay.
It’s been years but my heart still beats rapidly anytime Kira’s name is mentioned. It’s been years so I don’t know what she looks like and I am more than eager to find out.
The large doors swing to reveal Kira as she strolls into the hall, I can’t get a good look at her face because I am not standing close to the door and the crowd that has gathered around her, taking pictures and raining praises on her are not willing to move away from her anytime soon.
For a surprise party, she doesn’t sound surprised and it feels as if she had seen it coming. I am standing on my toes, desperate to get a glimpse of her face but it’s of no use.
I am tired of waiting so I storm forward impatiently with the bouquet in hand, as soon as I get close enough, I manage to get past some people before I make it close enough to stand directly in front of her.
She is as beautiful as I had expected but she has her back to me while she converses with a well wisher behind her. Brenda who is standing beside her notices me first and taps her gently to alert her of my presence.
As soon as she turns around to face me, my breath gets caught in my throat at the sight of her face. Recognition flashes through her eyes as her expression turns ghastly.
I can tell that she recognize me too and she is just as shocked as I am to see me here.
The flowers in my hand, slips from my grip and lands on the floor when our eyes lock together.
She is the girl from the hotel. The one I f****d last night.
She can’t be Kira! That’s just not possible. I yell out loud in my head as I glance at Brenda for some sort of sign that the girl before me is not Kira.
“Kira, Damon is back.” Brenda announces to my dismay.
As if that situation isn’t bad enough, I hear my wolf growl,
“Mate!”
How can a mate bond exist between siblings? A prank by the moon goddess? Or my wolf is wrong?
