“No.” He growled back and I shoved him again.

“I said fight me.”

“No.” He said, crowding closer to me. “You want to hit me, then hit me. I deserve it but I’m not going anywhere.”

Anger seethed through me but there was something else, something that I hadn’t expected to feel when he looked up at me all defiant.
