Jim pulled on his work gloves, grabbing a heavy bucket of bolts and nails from the back of Kenneth's truck. He followed Kenneth and Hector up the unfinished skeletal stairs, the metal structure swaying slightly beneath their weight. The morning sun already baked the concrete, promising another scorching day. Hector, sensing Jim's hesitation, grinned and slapped him on the back.
"You getting the hang of things?" Hector asked, his eyes lively in the sunlight. "Don't let the view throw you. Just keep an eye out for faults, missing reinforcement, that kinda stuff. We'll have this beauty set by lunch."
"Yeah, I'm good," Jim replied, feeling more solid with each passing day on the job. The construction site teemed with life. Sungold and Lamar stood on the roof, their voices carrying on the breeze,……
