I stared at my phone at the news broadcast and could feel the tears rising again. Damn these hormones. Ever since I hit puberty 4 years ago my tear ducts have had a regular workout. Sometimes I really curse being a male Omega. "Andrè! Get your s**t together we've got Pa coming home soon, you need to get out" I sighed and balanced against the wall as I put my school shoes on. Better get out of here or I'd end up with another smack to my face, or worse. I tightened my lips anxiously at the thought of enduring another beating. Michelle ran interference a lot of the time but sometimes the rage coming from our father was insurmountable and I got the brunt of it. Every. Single.Time. "Coming, tell Ma that I've got work tonight so I'll be sleeping at Jerry's place" I took the packed lunch that Michelle had in her hand for me, she raised an eyebrow enquiring. "No, it's not like that. He's a friend that is in my class and lives on top of Diablo's, plus it keeps me away from Papa" Michelle walked out with me and we hit the asphalt outside our 4 story townhouse. It looked beautiful set against the backdrop of the gated estate that was only built ten years ago to hold more affluent families in Andora. The only reason they moved here 6 months ago was because father got himself in trouble again with an almost open affair at work. Our Ma was so angry that she had to move from Inka which used to be the combined countries Germany and the Netherlands. We had been shipped out so far across the world because our stupid father decided that the chairman's daughter was his conquest. She was an Omega and he got her pregnant during one of her heats. Ma was used to her husband's affairs but this time for it to end up in a pregnancy was enough for her to have separate bedrooms. Not that I cared that much. Father always hurt me since I could remember, I'm surprised he didn't kill me as a baby. He's an Alpha, not a kind one at that. It was discovered at birth that I was a male omega, obviously because male omegas have smaller testicals and a larger anus. This allows for the birth canal. All male omegas are registered immediately at birth usually but my parents avoided that. If they get caught for that there is a penalty with a hefty fine and a jail sentence. I'd rather be far away with Michelle when that happens. I thought of the terrible childhood that Michelle and I have endured, God I hated them so much. Michelle was my only family in my eyes and I could easily tell she's an Alpha. Her tendency to always look after me and protect me are in her natural instincts as an Alpha. So it does give me hope there could be a good Alpha like her out there, the only issue is that it has to be a man. I've never felt attraction to any men, I have felt a stirring towards a few girls over the years and it straight up confused me. I shook myself slightly to get my thoughts on my sexuality a brush off. No point in giving myself a hernia over this. Like my counsellor said, it's best to just go with the flow and there's no right or wrong in feeling anything. We got to the train station and got on the rickety rusty carriage, grabbing two seats near the double sliding doors. It's amazing that there are usable train tracks here, in Inka we only used underground tubes so I always found it refreshing to see the scenery as we made our way to the centre of Andora. Diablo's restaurant wasn't far from our school and it was convenient to use the excuse of after school clubs to work instead of going home. Only Michelle and Jerry knew that I worked there. Jerry I met by accident when I was on my first shift raking out the trash and noticing the tall lanky red haired boy who sat behind me in class climbing the fire escape to get to the flat above. We pretty much became fast friends after that especially when he found out I loved the new animation of Kicof. There weren't many anime or films being made in the last 50 years so this anime was a big deal to me. I loved the art and work that's gone into it. Kicof used to be a game before the war and now that games are outlawed because they were deemed not productive to society. The anime had brought to life an ancient concept of heroes and monsters again. The screeching of the metal tracks causing friction against the train was so intense that Michelle automatically put her hands over my ears. I'm nearly seventeen but my sister still treats me like I'm five. I gave up protesting over the years and just sighed impatiently at her as I usually do. She smiled at me and tried to help me off the train gently. Again I just let her. Michelle was the epitome of a caring and wonderful Alpha. The total opposite to my father. We quickly walked through the station and joined the long line of students that had come from the adjoining bus station to take the ten minute walk to Andora High School. When our parents found out that there was no chance of us going to a prestigious private high school they nearly had a fit thinking what their old high society friends would think. Andora did everything differently, including education. It was against the law here to have private schools or any establishments that would segregate children into high society. Other countries were starting to follow because of the results of the birth rate starting to rise. Its not just future mandatory pairings but also a society that cut out the class system and made things productive for the omegas.
