Chapter1
“I, Chloe Manchester, rejects you, Tyler Lockwood as my mate.”
Those words echo in my head over and over again. I feel remorseful for being the cause of the attack but I do not, not even for a second, regret that I rejected Tyler as my mate for having a child with another woman right under my nose.
My heart thumps loudly in my chest as I try my best to remain hidden while I crawl to safety. It has totally slipped my mind that there are still some shards of the broken glass on the floor so I accidentally place both my palms on top of it.
The excruciating pain that shoots through me as the shards digs into my flesh, made me scream out loud in pain and that attracts the attention of the man I am trying to get away from.
Tyler!
He is my ex-husband and my ex-mate.
“Got you.” Tyler steps in front of me. I glance up at him and the evil look in his eyes sent a shiver down my spine. His claws are out, his eyes are blazing with rage and his canine teeth are out on full display.
With the way he looks, he is definitely out for blood and I don’t think I have ever seen him this way before, not until tonight.
“Did you really think that you could escape from me? You’re mine, Chloe, and nothing could ever separate us, not even a rejection.” He growls as he inches closer.
Regardless of the shards still stuck in my palms, I scoot backwards and keep going like that until my back slams against the wall and the realization of my predicament dawns on me.
“If you had just stayed put like I asked you to, we wouldn’t be in this situation. Now look what you’ve done.” He stretches out his hand and I can see the blood.
It’s everywhere on him. It’s like he has dipped his hand in blood or something.
“I didn’t want to kill them, but they just wouldn't let me see you so I had to improvise.” He says with a grin.
Unable to move or react to the fact that he has just confessed to murdering my parents, and traumatized by their blood trickling down his fingers, I break down in tears.
“You are going to get your lazy, pampered ass off the floor, take a shower and get dressed. Wear something nice because my wife can’t be seen looking like crap.” He leans closer and strokes my hair.
It feels like he is rubbing the blood off on me! The lump in my throat stretches, and it becomes even more difficult for me to swallow.
“Put on a smile, tomorrow is our wedding babe.” He chuckles maniacally, suddenly he stops and his expression hardens, “the next time you so much as even think about escaping, I will have your head for it.”
“Is that clear?” He snaps and that jolts me back to reality. I just nod because I still am not in control of my body, at least not yet.
He signals for a guard to take me out to the car, and before I can protest, the guard grabs fistfuls of my hair and drags me across the floor towards the door.
The pain numbs my senses, but when he yanks on it, I just lose it and dig my claws into the back of his legs. He hissed out loud in pain.
In annoyance, he slams my face on the floor and I hear my bones breaking. He has definitely broken my nose and when I feel something warm slide down my nostrils, I am certain that it’s blood.
As soon as I lift my face up from the dusty floorboard, a black, shining pair of shoes steps in front of me. I attempted to look up at the person that had just walked in but he is so tall that it’s impossible for me to see his face from my position.
Thunk!
A loud sound echoes beside me and a warm liquid splashes on the side of my face, I turn around slowly and let out a loud scream when the sight of a headless body comes into view.
Blood is all over the floor and probably on my body too. The guard from earlier is lying on the floor beside me, lifeless and his head is missing from his body.
I scampered away from the gruesome sight. With my back against the wall, I try to calm my racing heart, but it’s of no use.
Plink! Plink! Plink! Comes the sound of liquid dripping on the floor.
Once again, from my peripheral vision, I caught sight of a black pair of shoes and turned around to see who the stranger is and what kind of monster he is to have done something like this to the guard.
My eyes sweeps across the length of his body and I watched him toss his head aside like it didn’t mean anything. Like it wasn’t attached to someone a while ago.
I suck in air sharply when our eyes lock, he has the bluest pair of eyes that I have ever seen. He is about six feet, three inches tall and muscular. He has thick black hair, which compliments the black suit he is wearing and with the black ink peeking out from underneath his sleeves and collar, it’s obvious that he has a tattoo.
He wipes the blood off his hands with an irritated look and with such ease, as if the blood is just dirt on him.
I don’t realize that I have been holding my breath until he turns to look at me and I get sucked right in. He is staring right at me and it feels like there is no one else in the room other than the two of us.
I should be scared of him, he just murdered a man by ripping off his head with his bare hands. I should be petrified but oddly, I am not.
His presence is oddly….
My thoughts are cut off when he takes a step forward and squats down directly in front of me. I don’t know what to do other than to panic, but even with a racing heart and a trembling body, I can’t move.
I just remain rooted to the spot as if his eyes are holding me down.
There is this glint in his eyes as he stares into mine that would creep anyone out and give off the psychopath kind of vibe.
“I like your eyes,” he suddenly spoke up out of the blue. His voice is as clear as a sunny sky and his tone has this rough edge to it that makes one tremble slightly at the sound of it.
“Would you have a baby for me?” He c***s his head sideways and smiles up at me.
The stranger is smiling! He must be a lunatic, I thought to myself. It didn’t make any sense and he didn’t at all seem affected by Tyler’s presence.
I don’t realize what he has just asked of me until a few seconds has passed and my brain finally processes it. I look up at him sharply.
“What?”
“Would you have a baby for me?” He repeats boldly as if he just said the most important thing in the world. “It’s kind of an urgent situation so I would suggest you respond quickly.”
I just sit there, staring at him with a confused expression. I have no idea what he is talking about.
“Hey…who the f**k are you?” Tyler growls as he charges forward, ready to attack the stranger with his claws but before he could do anything, the stranger turns around with an air of authority and Tyler stops dead in his tracks.
He falls to his knees immediately.
“The Lycan King.” He mouths as he bows in front of the stranger, but I am not really certain of the words, after all he did not say it out loud.
I glanced from Tyler to the stranger in confusion. What’s going on? Who is he and why is an Alpha like Tyler bowing down to him?
“What’s your name?” The stranger asks me, totally ignoring Tyler who is still on his knees with his head bowed.
“Chloe.” I responded automatically and he smiled.
He gets up and his full height is so intimidating that it reminds me of how he killed the guard. With an unreadable expression, he stretches out his hand to me.
“Well…would you come with me Chloe?”
Maybe I am bewitched or maybe it’s the look in his eyes but most of all, I would blame Grey, my wolf for forcing me to place my hands in the hands of a killer and let him lead me out of the house.
As he helps me up, he doesn’t break eye contact and as soon as we step outside the house, I realize what I have done but it’s too late because before I could change my mind, I find myself in a car with the stranger and we’re speeding down the road to an unknown destination.
Who is this man, and what would he do to me?
As soon as I spot the outfit his driver is dressed in, I know just who he is.
The stranger is the Lycan King.
