Introduction Photography is life. There is always one particular joy I have whenever I get the opportunity to take pictures for people. I am a photographer in learning and still learning. In this book I will be taking us on a journey of how photography was invented,my experiences so far as a photographer and my aim of being a photographer. A photographer is a person that takes picture for people. CHAPTER 1 What is Photography? Photography involves creating a pictorial image. It involves creating an image by recording light with a camera and other various possibilities with the use of digital cameras and editing software. It is the art of producing an image. It is the art, application and practice of creating images by recording light either electronically by means of an image sensor or chemically by means of a light- sensitive material such as photographic film. Photography is the study of an image. CHAPTER 2 Invention of Photography Photography was invented by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1822. The first time a photograph was taken was inb1826. Louis Daguerre partnered with Niépce to improve the photography process. In 1851, wet- plate photography was introduced. That same 1852,the first photo of a solar eclipse was done. In 1880,George Eastman developed flexible film which led to the invention of first film camera known as "KODAX". The film for handheld camera was " black and white" until 1935 when KODAX company introduced color film. The first photo on earth as seen from space, white sands rocket in October 24,1946. The first female photographer was Anna Atkings in 1799 in Kent, England. The first underwater photograph was in 1856 by Williams Thompson. First aerial photograph on record was in October 13,1860 by J.W Black. The most expensive camera sold was also the oldest commercially produced camera. Steven Sasson invented digital photography and digital camera. CHAPTER 3 Characteristics of a professional photographer The characters of a photographer defines who they are. Characters makes people to recommend you that is why some photographers are recommended till date because of some of the characteristics I will be sharing. Neatness A photographer must be known for neatness and cleanliness. The photographer must dress well and also be looking nice. Note this it is the neatness of the surroundings of a studio and the neatness of the photographer is very important. This is one the things that brings customers. Manner Of Approach To Customers A photographer must be able to approach their customers well in a very good manner. A photographer must have patience. Take for example, when a photographer and a customer are negotiating price of a picture the photographer must be in the state of talking to them in a respectful manner because some customers are ill-mannered and points like that you must talk to them calmly. Friendliness A photographer must be friendly. He/ she must be a very nice and accommodating person. A photographer must learn how to tolerate people. Must Be Able To Control Customers Whether In The Studio Or On A Location A photographer must be a person that can cooperates and control his or her customers. Take for instance, maybe in a very big occasion as a photographer you must be talk to the people, take note of their arrangements for better outcome of a picture. You can also be in a studio you must also be able to control your customers. Must Avoid disappointments A photographer must be a person that keeps to his/ her words. They must never disappoint their customers. If a time is scheduled for a shoot that time must be met. There must be no disappointment. Must Be Courageous And Wise A photographer must be wise. He/ she must not give room for customers to override them. A photographer must be bold and not shy. Because photography doesn't deal with dull or shy people but deals with bold people because the kinds of occasion they tend to attend. And when a photographer is bold and proud of their work they will be recommended. A quick story of myself, there was a naming ceremony my boss and I were met to attend together but at a point we got busy with different shots in the studio then my boss told me that I will be the one going to take the naming ceremony pictures so as to avoid disappointment,in my own inner mind,I was saying I am shy oo,how will I face the crowd but I just kept praying on my way to the place. But at the end the pictures I snapped came out nice my boss liked it and since then I summouned courage and boldness. Must Be Creative and full of imaginary ideas. A photographer must be fast thinker on how a studio will be set for a shoot and how the person will be doing. Must be able to create new things in mind. CHAPTER 4 Skills In Photography Skill is the action in which we snap or the way we take photographs. There are different skills in photography and we will be taking a look at them one after the other. Adaptive Skill This is the way you set the image in the camera and which you develop it by yourself. This means the way you set pictures ourself on a camera and the development and enhancement is left to you. Photography Skill It is the normal way we take pictures, that is there are some ways in which we take photographs like passport, normal photography. It is just like the casual way of taking pictures. Professional Skill This is how you differentiate an amateur work to a professional work. For example, the way my boss will take pictures will be different from how I will take and edit pictures. CHAPTER 5 Relevance/ Importance Of Photographs. Photographs serves different purpose and relevance in the general world today. For Future Records Photographs might not be kept for now but for the future. It helps in documenting events, moments in time and they have seen. Most pictures of mine that have been taken are kept for the future because it will take me back and make me remember some of the things I did then. It is kept for the future, through this generations to come can see. For Remembrance Look at this example,a child on the naming ceremony might not know what happened, but when there is a picture there is a proof of the event. Also we can take birthday parties as examples. It Tells Story It helps individual to gain better understanding of the world,in the case of scientific Photographs or photojournalism. Photography is also an artistic medium. Photographic images can be reproduces, allowing them to be circulated and distributed to the world at large. Even before digital photography,a film photograph was easier to reproduce than the painting and drawing that had previously been the best way to convey an image. CHAPTER 7 FACTORS THAT AFFECTS PHOTOGRAPHS Weather You must watch the atmosphere condition before you take pictures. That means the sunrise and sunset your lens must not face the sun. Development This is one of the problem that photographers face, that is to develop the film to negative if the development is not good, the printing will not be good. POOR STORAGE When there is no or bad conducive environment for the storage of Photographs it affects it alot. Some of the photographs are resistance to heat. Pictures needs a conducive environment so that it won't get spoilt and all. PRECAUTIONS IN HANDLING CAMERA These measures will help in handling the camera with care to avoid spoilage: 1) Handle it with care and avoid thumbprints 2) It must be kept in a bright place. 3) When you clean it with water,it must be dried before it is used. 4) Use soft cloth to clean it if there is dirt or stain. 5) It must be properly kept for future record or reprint. CHAPTER 8 Experiences so far as a photographer,Why I love photography,My aim as a photographer. The journey of learning Photography started since when I was in junior secondary school. I love anything art like drawing, instruments, painting and photography. I loved anything that brings out natural reality and make people happy. I started learning photography, learnt how to handle it,my coach then started teaching me the basic elements that is needed to just like the little process we have gone through. Not long after then my dad bought me like a pocket camera just for practice and all.my coach taught me how to edit pictures and also print out pictures. I got my certificate after secondary school. After I finished secondary school,I went ahead to learn more about it in another place just to have more broad knowledge about cinematography, videography, video editing, photo editing. I started learning them and this was when I started going for occasions with my boss. We go weddings, birthdays, house warmings, naming ceremonies and baby or adult shoot. I got exposed to new things than when I was in school. My boss taught me new things that I wasn't exposed to in secondary school and some other things. Form that time,I could take pictures well and I most times for occasions with my boss. I have attended two wedding ceremonies with my boss where I was the one that took the major job there,I was the one snapping pictures and all. I went to represent my boss at one naming ceremony because she was busy with a shoot in the studio. Photography is not an easy task, it needs total concentration and continuous practice. Photography is fun and interesting. I started my own earning with Photography when I entered university. I took a matriculation picture for a student with an iphone camera because I don't yet have a camera of my own and also a birthday shoot with the iphone camera and I edited them and they came out really nice.. I love photography because I had the passion of it since primary school. My aim as a young child was to study pediatrics and that's a doctor for children. But I didn't go to a science class and my school authorities said I will be good in art class and so the vision of children was still in me that I had the mindset that whatever I do will be in line with children and so my aim as a photographer is to specialize under the children shoots and also be a successful photographer.
