Chapter one - New place to call home
Emma's POV: Vince and I graduated from university. We decided to live with our parents until we found a house. For the past two months, we have been searching. Our parents wanted to help us, but we didn't let them. The thing is that Vice and I want to pay for the house with our money. It's not like if our parents do it, we won't give them the money back. I know that they want to help. We are not kids anymore, and we have to take responsibility for things like that. The good news is that mom has changed completely. We argued a lot when I was in high school, but now everything is good. She likes Vince and goes out with his mom often. I'm glad that they became so close. Vince has changed too. Let's say that he is in a protective mode all the time. We haven't heard from Ricky since high school. I have no idea where he is, but it's better that way. He might have changed, but I won't forgive him for all the things he did to Vince and me. His parents gave mom and dad higher positions. Now they are at the same level. I think that they did it only because they were feeling awful. I have told them that it wasn't their fault. Ricky lied to everyone. At least he is gone now. I won't lie that sometimes I am worried. He can come back, and I don't want to see him. Let's hope that he has grown up. I don't want any of those things to repeat. I suffered enough. I hope that now, I can have a peaceful life. I woke up and checked my phone. I had a message from Vince. He wants to come for breakfast. I assume this is not the real reason, but I'm happy when he is around. No matter if we have been together for more than five years, we still sleep separately. When we buy our own house, things will be different. I love my parents, but I think it's time for me to move out. Well, the house will be in the same town, so I can come for a visit. They can do it too. After all, sometimes, I might need their help. I got out of bed and went to get ready. Later, I went for breakfast. Vince was talking with dad. When I came, they cut the conversation. I guess that it's something about me. Soon, mom came, and all of us started eating. I used to hide Vince because I didn't know what mom would think about him. Now, everything is different. She likes him, and they understand each other very well. She better do it because things are getting serious. Vince and I haven't thought about anything further, but I won't do it with anyone else. - The food is delicious, miss Sander. - Thank you. I'm glad that you like it. - What is the plan for today? - I asked - I don't have one. - Don't lie. You always have. - Ok, we can do whatever you want. At 3 pm, I have to show you something. - What is it? - I can't tell you. - Why? I want to know. - You have to be patient. - This is so unfair. Well, it's not like I have a choice. - Good girl. - I am not a dog. - No, but you are my girl. After breakfast, Vince and I went for a walk. Today, the weather is nice. I asked about the surprise, but he didn't tell me anything. I guess that I have to wait. I hate it when he does that. We stopped in front of an ice cream truck. I got vanilla and Vince mint with chocolate chips. It was delicious. I love ice cream. For lunch, we went to a restaurant. I like it because the atmosphere is casual. I mean that people don't need to dress officially. I ordered only a salad and a dessert. After the ice cream, I'm not that hungry. Well, Vince is a man, and he needs more food. If I eat as much as him, I will be fat. He is lucky that he has a fast metabolism. No matter how much he eats, he will never gain weight. - Lucky. - Who? - You. If I eat that much, I will be fat. - Don't be a drama queen. Moreover, your body needs food. Don't tell me that you will start starving yourself. - What? No. I want to eat anything without worrying about my weight. - Then do it. - How? I am a girl. We care about these things. - You mean a woman. - What? - You are a woman, not a girl. - In your dreams. I still act like a freaking teenager. - It's not like I don't. We are too young to grow up. - Vince, we are twenty-four. - So what? I still want to have fun. - Ok, if you say so. I will be on the adult side. After all, someone has to keep an eye on you. - On you too. - I have parents for that. - And me. I won't let you go anywhere. - I'm glad to hear that. - It's almost time for us to go. I will go and pay. - Do you mean my surprise? - Yes, I do. Soon, you will see it. - I can't wait. Vince went to pay, and later we walked out. I have no idea where we are going, but I am excited. I have a good feeling about this. It's not a lie that Vince loves to make surprises. I have received a lot, but his are the best. I know that he will never disappoint me. After thirty minutes of walking, we stopped, and he blindfolded me. Luckily, he was holding me the whole time. Otherwise, I would fall. I am getting excited again. It's not like I have stopped. Soon, we arrived, and he told me to wait for him. After five minutes, I walked again. I feel like I have entered somewhere. - You can take off the blindfold. - Where are we? Wait, is this what I think it is? - Maybe. - These are the kitchen drawers which I liked. The couch too. How? When? - The questions later. Do you want a mini-tour? - Hell, yeah. - I didn't buy everything, but the most important things are here. - This house is so big. - All we have to do is fill it. - With what? - Kids, what else? - Kids? How much do you want? - One, two... ten. - Ten? There is no way that I will have ten kids. I can't take care of all of them. - Ok, maybe not ten, but at least two. - It's easy for you. I'm the one who has to carry all the kids for nine months. - I know that you will do great. - Let's go. Where is our bedroom? - On the first floor. I was thinking about putting the kids on the second and having a guest room there. Well, we'll see about that. Things might change. - I'm glad you have a plan, but let's not rush. Right now, I don't want kids. Maybe after one-two years. - Whenever you want. - Is this the bed which I chose? - Yes. Everything here is your choice. - Have I told you how much I love you? - Yes, but it's nice to hear it. - Thank you. The house is beautiful. - Wait until I show you the backyard. We walked there, and I left speechless. It was big and spacious. Also, there was a big pool and trees. Is that a lemon? This man will never stop surprising me. Lately, I have turned into a backyard lover. - Do you like it? - No, I love it. From where did you get so much money? - I used our savings. Well, not all of them. I left some for emergencies. When we save more, we can buy the rest of the furniture. - The main things are here. Everything else can wait. - True. What do you want us to do now? The pool is not clean. I mean that it has leaves from the trees. - We can buy a cover for it and put it on when we don't use it. - Do you have money? - It's not urgent. - I said, and Vince laughed - I'm glad that we think the same. - Is this what you were talking about with my dad in the morning? - Yes, he helped me with the furniture. - I should be mad, but I'm not. - Hey, you know that I will do anything for you. - I know, and I'm thankful for that. - Why don't we go home? We can have dinner with our parents. - I like the plan. Both with Vince went home. Our moms was drinking coffee. I have no idea where our dads are. It's like they have read our minds. We made ourselves coffee and joined the women. - Hey, you are back. Did you like the house? - miss Gray asked - Ok, am I the only one who didn't know anything? - Yes, you are. - Don't give me that look. I needed help and had to tell someone. Not you, of course. - Vince said - You will see. - These games don't work on me, and you know it. - I never mentioned a game. - It's like I don't know you. After our coffee, I went to help our moms with dinner. They did most of the work, but that way, we finished faster. For two hours, we made salad, the main dish, and a dessert. Three women work faster than two. I prepared the table and called the men. They looked at the food like they had never seen it before. I guess that someone is hungry. I won't lie that I am too. After lunch, I didn't eat anything. I should've eaten more, but during that time, I wasn't hungry. Who knows how it will be when I get pregnant? I have heard that women eat more during this period. - Men, do you like the food? - mom asked - It's delicious. Good job, ladies. - When will you officially move in? - dad asked - Do you want to get rid of me? - What? Of course not. I'm only asking. - I don't know. We haven't decided yet. - Well, you are always welcome here. - I will miss this place. - With time, you will get used to it. For me, it was weird as well. Now, I am happy to be here. - mom said - I know. The question is how much time it will take me. - This is something that I can't tell you. It depends on you. - If you need more money, you can tell us. - mister Gray said - Thanks, dad, but we are good. We have everything that we need for now. - When you need something, you know where to find us. - Don't worry. We'll need you, but not now. - Vince. I told you something. - I know, but they must be prepared. - Wait a minute! Are you pregnant? - mom asked - What? No, I'm not. I don't plan to do it this year. - One day, you have to do it. - I know, but I don't want to do it now. - No one said that you had to rush. First, you need to be ready. - We have time for this. - Yes, you do. Let's eat now. Babies can wait. Until the rest of the night, Vince and I talked with our parents. I'm glad they think about us, but we can take care of ourselves. Moreover, I have a protective man. Nothing bad will happen to me. To be honest, I never thought that we would go that far. I was afraid that something might happen to us. Luckily, my nightmare didn't come true. Otherwise, I didn't know what I was going to do. Vince is a treasure. I don't know why I met him, but I am happy about it. He is the only one with who I want to be. I hope that we'll be together for a long time. I love you, Vince.
