Chapter 1: Ginny's Beginning
Ginny Grey's bright green eyes flit over the food delivery forms, checking and rechecking that everything was there for the big day. Her Brother, Griffin Grey, was taking over as Alpha of the Night Flox Pack today, and Ginny wanted everything to be perfect. She wasn't his sister by blood, having been found as a pup on the borders of the Night Flox Pack's territory, but she had been adopted by the Alpha and the Luna there and had been treated like their own child. She owed this pack, and her family, her life and was going to make it count today. Ginny's amber hair bounced in a high ponytail as she moved around the kitchen, checking that everything was running smoothly. She felt hands rest on her shoulders as she was looking over the desserts. Ginny spun around to see Brenda, her mother, standing behind her. "Come, now, Ginny," Brenda chided, "You don't have to do everything yourself. Everyone is working together to make this day special." "That may be true," Ginny said as she slid out if her grip "but I want to make sure no one questions Griffin's authority even for a minute. There are some some tough alphas coming today." Brenda didn't need to be reminded. Although most packs were on good terms in this part of the country, there were a few worth keeping their eye on. The Red Crescent Pack was the worst by far, being the second most powerful pack and also the most aggressive. "With the Lycan Alpha here, we shouldn't have anything to worry about." Brenda Assured Ginny, taking her in her arms again. "Unless the food isn't up to Rumie's standards." She giggled. "Nothing's ever up to Rumie's standards." Ginny laughed. "Or Remie's." Remie and Rumie were twins. Rumie was the alpha of the Red Crescent Pack and Remie was his sister, born just a minute after him. They had jet black, straight hair and dark brown eyes. They were a striking pair and a force to be reckoned with. "Let's not worry about the other Alphas tonight. There will be plenty of werewolves here. Maybe you will even find your mate?" Brenda teased. Ginny glowed red with embarrassment. Her wolf, Bri, hummed happily. She had turned eighteen, when werewolves are able to sense their mates, over a year ago. She was already nineteen and felt out of the loop as many wolves her age had already found their mates. Bri was amber like Ginny's hair colour, and big for a she wolf. Bri's eyes were almost silver, like the moon reflected on water. Ginny secretly believed she had already met her mate. Strong, tall and handsome, Maxim had always been special to her. He was going to be Griffin's Beta and they had spent most of their childhood together. Every time his light blue eyes locked with hers, she felt her knees buckle. His birthday was in a week and Ginny already felt certain he was her mate. He felt the same way and promised to mark her as soon as he came of age. Ginny muttered some half hearted response and moved out of the kitchen. The Night Flox's pack house was pretty big for the small size of the pack and it's territory. Ginny had a check list and was walking around making sure everything was done. The banisters were wrapped, there were balloons everywhere and the ballroom was fabulous. It was too cold to have the party outside this year, but their ballroom was more than adequate. Ginny couldn't wait to dance in this room the next night. The Alpha ceremony took two days. The first day the previous Alpha handed over the pack and the responsibilities that come with being Alpha. The new Alpha had a speech and everyone ate together. The second night was more of a party. There were lighter foods, drinks for those of age, and a live band to top it all off. Ginny pictured her and Maxim gliding around the room, dancing close together. She was so lost in thought that she didn't notice someone come up to her until he waved his hand right infront of her. Ginny nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw who is was. Her face flushed bright crimson. "M-maxim." Ginny stuttered. " Uh, hi. Excited for....." She realized how close Maxim was standing to her. He was standing so close that Ginny was forced to tilt her head up to look into his eyes. His scent was strong from training with the Warriors all morning. He smelled like sweat and Cedar. His shaggy brown hair was wet from his workout and it hung in loose waves down his forehead. His blue eyes were full of life, and a little mischief as they peered down at her blushing face. "The ball? Of course I am. It's all anyone is talking about. I was just heading back to my room when I saw you in the door way." Maxim loosely took Ginny's hand, the one with the pen held in it. "I was wondering if you would save me a dance?" He asked, his voice husky and low. His eyes were black with lust causing Ginny to start and drop her pen. Ginny felt like her face was on fire. She took her hand from Maxim's and retrieved her pen off of the floor. She stepped back and got a better view of Maxim as she stood back up. He had powerful legs and his feet dwarfed her own. His shirt clung to his chest and fell loosely around his midriff, just hinting at the packed muscle beneath. His jaw was sharp and speckled with stubble, with his goofy smile cutting straight through Ginny's heart. Ginny gulped. How lucky could a girl get? "Yeah, uh, of course. That would be, yeah. I can do that." Ginny managed to spit out. Maxim smiled bigger and thanked Ginny. "I'll see you later tonight, then." He ran off to his room to get ready for the ceremony tonight. Ginny felt like she was on top of the world. How could things get any better?
