Chapter 1
Ashley couldn't believe her ears as her Mom told her they would be moving away from the neighborhood she had spent most of her life in. It had never crossed her mind for once. She thought she would spend her last days of high school with her friends, but all of her thoughts were going down the drain, thanks to her Mom, who she believed had never considered her in anything. "Mom! Are you joking? Are we moving? Why? And how?" She wished her Mom would be playing pranks on her, she wished she would burst into laughter and say. I just wanted to see you freak out. "Ash", her Mom called calmly, "I know this came as a shock to you, but we are moving. I found a Studio last week, and it is not any way close to this place". She held Ashley's hand. "I really can't forfeit that studio, it's a very good one," Naomi said, hoping her daughter would understand her. "I have no problem with you getting a better studio, but you should carry me along with whatever you do or plan to do! You shouldn't drop the bomb on me like that, I'm your daughter!" "Of course, you are my daughter, and I'm very sorry. I have found an apartment closer to the studio already." "Apartment? Wow! Have you ever considered me for anything? Moving means kissing my school and friends goodbye! But you still don't think it was important to let me know when you were planning it?" She scoffed. "I've always considered you Ash. Besides, a new school for your last year in high school isn't a bad idea. You are going to love it. Most teenagers always love it" Naomi said, smiling. "I'm not most teenagers, I'm just me and I don't like it". Ashley brushed her hair to the back with her fingers. "Okay Ashley, what else would I have done?" Naomi's hands dropped, slapping her thighs. "I don't know, probably leave me behind?" "I would love to do that if only you were eighteen." "I'll be Eighteen next year" "Come on baby girl, I know you can't wait to get away from me, but how about we both patiently wait for next year?" They both sighed. "But right now, I need you to get yourself together. We will be moving this Saturday." "Saturday? Like the one after tomorrow? This is Thursday Mom! I don't even have enough time. You shouldn't have bothered telling me, it would've been better if you had moved me while sleeping." "I'm sorry again, huh? It always skipped my mind", Naomi whispered. "I love my life!" She said sarcastically. "You have never considered me, and I don't think you ever will." She ran to her room and closed the door behind her. She couldn't believe she would be saying goodbye soon. She is laid on her stomach on the bed. "I was supposed to tell Alex how I feel about him, but it's messed up now. Who says I love to change schools?" She took her phone and announced it in her friend's group chat. She was sure they would spread the news. She felt sleepy, so she decided to take a nap. Maybe it would help her relax. It was Saturday, and she woke up late, so she had to take her bath quickly before the moving bus arrived. Her Mom had made breakfast already, and she was grateful for that. Just when she was about to leave , her Mom called her to help her out with moving things out of the house. "Now I don't get to eat", she murmured and left her food almost immediately. If there was anything she didn't want at the moment, it was getting into an argument with her Mom. After they had both packed out the things they could carry, her food was already too cold. "I'll make you another one when we get to our new home", her Mom promised. "You don't have to". She dismissed the idea. The moving company sent two buses that drove into their gateway, and four men got off it. "We moved a few things out to make it faster," her Mom told them and they murmured a Thank-you. "You want to take a last look at the house?" her Mom asked. "There's no need for a sad ending" She walked towards one of the buses, opened it, and got in, waiting for them to be done so that they could leave. She had expected their new house to look the same as the old one or maybe more ugly and cheap, but was surprised to see it was nothing like she had imagined. It was beautiful and expensive. "You like it?" "How did you afford this place?" She asked a question instead of answering "You don't need to worry about that. I'll take it as a Yes, you this place" "No! It makes me sick." Ashley loved the house but wasn't going to give her Mom the satisfaction of that. "Do you want to see your room?" "I'll check it out when they are done here". She passed a glance at the guys from the moving company that were moving their things in. But her Mom wasn't ready to wait, so she pulled her along and opened the door to the room she had been dying to show her. It was clouded in pink. "Arrgh!" "What is it? You like it?" "I don't like pink! It's dumb. Why does everybody think females like pink?" She asked but wasn't expecting an answer. "Ouch! I thought you would love it, but you don't have to transfer aggression to the innocent color. Pink is not dumb, it is cute, just like you" "You could have painted it my favorite color." "Dream on baby girl, no corner of my house will be painted in your favorite color" "Black is mature" "In outfits". Her mom turned her around, so she would face her "I looked around for a school that was closer, and I found Hills Academy. The next semester is starting soon." "Not like my objection counts." "Trust me, you will love it there. I'll enroll you next week, okay?" The new neighborhood wasn't as bad as she had imagined, or maybe not bad at all. Their neighbor Margaret and her daughter had been so nice to them since they moved and visited them regularly. She was also a single mother like her Mom. "Got school yet?" Margaret asked on one of her visits. "She will be joining Hills Academy for her 12th grade" "Really?Wow! I also planned to attend Hills Academy for my 12th grade. Heard it is the best" Isabella, Margaret's daughter said, happily. "What's so good about the school?" Ashley muttered to herself and smiled uncomfortably. "Trust me, with that school, you will enjoy your last days of high school. That's a good opportunity right there" Isabella gushed. "Wait, but do you guys know the school is expensive? I mean elite kids go there." "I know Isabella," Naomi smiled. Maybe Isabella was right. All the excitement written on her face as she talked about Hills Academy made Ashley look forward to having an experience in the school.
