Chapter 1
Makenna"s POV I was sitting on my bed when I heard a car pull up outside. I got up and looked out of my window, seeing a guy get out and my dad greet him. I"m pretty sure he"s the Alpha of the land behind us, but I"m not too sure. I remember my dad saying there was an Alpha coming over for a meeting today. I waited a few minutes before quietly going downstairs. I stood around the corner of my dads office, listening to them talk about me. "Look Damon. I know you guys think this is smart. But she hasn"t even found her mate yet!" I could hear the frustration in his voice. "But you see, my son hasn"t found his mate either. So if we could just have them mate then we could combine the packs. They"d have strong pups and our packs combined would be unstoppable. Just think abo-." "Shut up Jackson!" My dad yelled, cutting him off as he slammed something. "That"s my daughter you"re talking about! She is the, strongest, most intelligent, highly trained member in my pack. I have no doubt in my mind that she will be a better Alpha than me. Because she will be the alpha of this pack. And there is nothing anyone can do about it. And if you want to try then go ahead, by all means. But I can tell you right now that it won"t work out in your favor. She will not only be the alpha of this pack, but the queen of wolves, she"s been training longer and harder than anyone else. Going against her will be a death wish." He growled. "So either deal with it or leave." I smiled to myself and quietly went back to my room, satisfied with the way my dad had stood up for me. Ever since I was fifteen I"ve been training to be the Alpha of our pack and the Queen of wolves. My dad says that if I found my mate it would help get the other Alpha"s off of my back, but I"m not worried about that right now. Finding a mate, who will most likely just try to control me, doesn"t even cross my mind that much. My main concern is that my birthday is in a week and I have to make sure I"m ready for this. I can"t disappoint my parents. "Hey Makenna!" My dad yelled up the steps. "Come here a second!" "Coming!" I called, getting up and running down to his office. "This is Alpha Jackson. He has the land behind us." My dad said, gesturing to the man he had been speaking to earlier. He was tall, but not as tall as my dad. He had brown hair with hints of grey in it and brown eyes. "Hello." I said, shaking his hand. "So Makenna, what"s your plans?" He asked me, eyeing me up and down. "What do you mean by that alpha?" I asked, glancing over at my dad. "Well. You will be the Luna of this pack in a week. Not only that, but you"ll be the Queen of us all." He said. "So, what are your plans? Everyone"s worried about how well you"ll manage. Seeing as you"re a female and all." My dad growled but I just shook my head. "Okay Alpha Jackson. I"m going to say this once and once only. So listen clearly." I growled, taking a step towards him. "I will not be the Luna of this pack, I will be the Alpha. And yes I"m completely aware it"s only a week, it is my birthday after all. But I can assure you I have been training and learning every thing about every single pack and everyone in it since I turned fifteen, not that it"s any of your business to begin with." He took a step back and glanced around the room nervously. "So alpha Jackson." I said, glaring at him. "I will not let you stand on my land and blatantly disrespect me. You will either deal with the fact that I will be the alpha of this pack or you will stay away. The choice is yours." "I"m sorry Makenna. I uh. I meant no disrespect." He stammered, looking everywhere except at me. "Good." I nodded. "Then I guess everything is settled here. So if you don"t mind, I should get going because I have more important things to do." I walked out of the office and slammed the door, storming up to my room. I slipped on a pair of shorts and a tank top, grabbing my phone and texting Adrian. I slipped on my running shoes and met Adrian out front. "What"s up loser?" Adrian called as I walked down the porch steps. "Freaking alphas." I muttered, rolling my eyes. "What now?" He asked as we headed towards the woods. After explaining everything he laughed and shook his head. "You are one bad ass chick, standing up to an Alpha like Jackson." He chuckled. "What do you mean?" I asked, looking over at him. "Alpha Jackson. The Alpha who is known for killing an entire group of rogue wolves all on his own to protect his mate. If you studied as much as you said you did, you"d know that. So, you knew that, right?" He raised his eyebrows. "No." I laughed as he shook his head. "Oh, but I thought you did your research." He mocked, bumping into me. "Yeah, yeah. Smart ass." I mumbled, pushing him away. "What was that?" He asked, giving me a challenging look. "I"ll race you!" I yelled, taking off before he had a chance to comprehend what I had said. "Hey no fair!" I heard him call after me, followed by his footsteps. After running around for a few hours we stopped and sat down. "So Mak." Adrian said, giving me a serious look. "How are you?" "I"m fine." I said. "No Makenna. This isn"t a question I want you to put on your Alpha face for, this is a question I want you to answer honestly." I shrugged and looked at the ground. "You"re my best friend Mak. I"ll always be here for you. No matter what." "What if I can"t do it?" I whispered, looking up at him as tears filled my eyes. "What if the other Alphas are right and I just can"t do this?" "Look Mak. I know you better than anyone else, especially those Alphas. You are the strongest person I know. You"re smart, brave, and really stubborn. You can do this Makenna Rose. I know you can, I believe in you." He opened his arms and I leaned into him as the tears fell from my eyes. "But Adrian." I said quietly. "I"m scared." "I know Mak. I"m scared too." He said. "But we"ll be okay. I know we"ll be okay because I have you by my side. You make anything seem possible. You"re like a sister to me and I wouldn"t want anyone else to be my Alpha." I smiled softly and nodded. "Thank you Adrian." I whispered. "Anytime Makenna. I"ll be here until the end." He smiled. "Now come on. Let"s get home." I nodded and we stood up, brushing the dirt off of our pants. "I"ll race you." I said before running back to the house. "Adrian"s here!" I yelled to my mom as we walked in. "Right on time! Dinners ready! Get in here!" She called. We both went to the kitchen and she smiled at us, making our plates. We started to eat while my dad finished up things with Alpha Jackson. "How are you, Adrian?" My mom asked. "I"m doing good." He said with a mouth full of food. My mom giggled and shook her head. "How"s Jacob and Myha doing?" She asked. "Mom and dad are doing great last they called. They"re going to be up with her family for about another month or two." He said. My dad walked in and he smiled at me. "So Makenna." My dad said as he sat down at the table. "That was an interesting meeting." "Very much so." I nodded, trying really hard to suppress my laughter. "What happened?" My Mom asked, eyeing both of us suspiciously. "Well. Our daughter has your attitude and your fire." My dad said, failing at holding back his laughter. "And let me tell you. The look on Jacksons face was priceless. She basically told Jackson to accept she was the Alpha or to f**k off." Adrian and I laughed with him as my stared at us. She finally giggled and shook her head. "Ya know Makenna. You"re like a small ball of attitude and anger." Adrian said, causing everyone to laugh even harder. I hate to admit it, but he isn"t wrong. I"m only 5"5 but I"m filled with attitude and I definitely have my dads temper. "No Mak." Adrian shook his head. "When you find your mate you can both be Alpha." "But Adrian. What if he wants me to be the Luna." "Well then. He ain"t your mate anymore." He shrugged. "It doesn"t work like that, ya doofus." I chuckled as he continued to shake his head at me. "Your mate should respect you and the things you want. Just trust me." He said in his "I"m a genius" tone. I just nodded, sighing as I flopped back on my bed. After a few hours of sitting in my room and talking Adrian walked back over to his house. I got up and walked into my closet, grabbing a pair of sweatpants and a shirt. I went and took a shower and got changed. I stood in the bathroom, looking in the mirror at myself. I see why the other Alpha"s try to underestimate me. I am on the small side for a having alpha genes, but I"m not sure why. I could beat the best warrior we have with ease. I guess size really doesn"t matter or however that saying goes. I sighed, putting my hair up before going back into my room. I picked up some of my dirty clothes and put them in my basket, cleaning up the things I had scattered on my floor. I grabbed my phone off of my nightstand and went downstairs. All of the lights were off, meaning my parents were asleep. It"s almost 11 so I"m not surprised. I haven"t been sleeping well lately though so instead I stay awake and eat. I went to the kitchen and sifted through the cabinets, looking for any snacks my dad might"ve hid from my mom. I found a pack of Oreos so I grabbed them along with a few cheese sticks and headed back to my room. As I laid in bed eating Oreos and cheese, I thought about what I"ve heard out of all the alphas who had come in the past few weeks. They all think the same thing, that I can"t be the alpha of this pack. Their only concern is me being a girl. If I were a boy there would be no problems out of anyone, but that"s not the way things happened. The other Alpha"s think I should just claim someone as my mate, even if they aren"t, so that I"ll have a male to help me. But I don"t need help, that"s what no one understands. I might be a girl, but I could probably kick their asses with my eyes closed. I"m actually not sure why they feel the need to doubt me and what I"m capable of because so far they"ve all left here scared of me. They all have tried calling me Luna. But that"s not what I am. I am going to be Alpha Makenna, Queen of Wolves. I"m going to do what they all think I can"t. I"m going to show them exactly what I"m capable of. I"m going to be the leader I know I can be with or without my mate. I"ll prove them all wrong.
