“Joseph! Oh!” “Yeah! Ugh! That’s right, scream for me baby.” I felt an intense and strong throb of pain that I couldn't ignore. I put my hands over my mouth and tears streamed down my face. It was a god forsaken noise that pierced through me - muffled voices, skin slapping and the unbearable echoes of cries of pleasure that seemed to fill every corner of OUR room. My own trembling body betrayed me, not allowing me to move or do anything more than sit here in horror. P-please…I’m begging you…stop the noise already! I can’t take this anymore! The sound coming from the room began to reverberate as my anxiety spiraled out of control. I had resigned myself to what seemed like an inevitable defeat when suddenly the room fell silent, a darkness enveloping me until all I could hear was the sound of my own heart beating in my chest. The noises had died down and eventually the door opened to reveal my husband emerging from our room, arm-in-arm with another woman whom I'd never seen before, a complete stranger to me. Both of them were almost naked. My husband is only wearing his boxers and the woman only with her lingerie. I felt my heart sink. An intense mix of emotions swept over me in that moment. Confusion, shock, betrayal and anger. I could feel an icy chill run through my veins as adrenaline coursed through my body. “That was amazing, darling.” the woman said with a soft, purring sound, like a cat's contented hum, as she held onto my husband's arm. “You too, baby. You’re great.” I looked on in terror as my husband leaned in and planted a soft kiss on her lips, right there before me! The wave of shock almost caused me to lose my balance, but I steadied myself against the wall. A tiny whimper escaped my mouth, and at the sound of it they both turned to look at me. My heart was beating fast with rage and disbelief that he could do this while married to me. But his eyes were expressionless as if nothing was wrong. “Oh, you’re here.” I felt knots in my stomach as he addressed me as if I was nothing more than a stranger to him. The woman's scrutinizing gaze ran over me like icy fingers, making my skin crawl. She looked at me with disdain, her expression full of judgement and repugnance. “Is she your maid? She looks awful.” “W-what?” I couldn’t believe this. “Oh, yeah. Hey, can you do me a favor? Can you tidy up the room? Also, it would be awesome if you could wash our clothes. You know, she's going to be staying here with us starting now.” Joseph reached out and held onto the woman's waist. They were about to go away, but then I quickly grabbed Joseph's other hand and pulled him towards me. I brought his face close to mine and gave him a strong hit on the cheek. I was really angry, and tears started flowing down my face without me being able to stop them. He looked surprised at first, but then his face changed to show he was really shocked. It seemed like he didn't understand what had just occurred. The woman got scared and screamed as she moved away from both of us. “How dare you to do this with your own wife?!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. “Hey! Why did you hit him-” “Stay away from my husband! You b*tch!” I pointed my finger at her. Just as I was going to turn my gaze back towards Joseph, I suddenly felt a strong force shove me from behind. This caused me to lose my balance completely and I ended up falling down onto the ground. I let out a sudden gasp. As I gradually lifted my head to see what had happened, I found myself staring at Joseph's hostile expression. He was looking down at me with clenched teeth. “I had enough with you, Leah!” I didn't have time to respond, and out of nowhere, he quickly took hold of my wrist and yanked me to my feet with force. Then, he began pulling me along with him, taking me away from where we were. “Joseph! Wait! I’m sorry! I didn’t mean-” “Get out of this house!” My heart sunk into my stomach, and the whole world around me stopped spinning. I thought he was just joking when he went to our closet and started throwing my clothes around. The reality of the situation hit me full force like a tidal wave of emotions. Tears welled up in my eyes as fear coursed through every inch of my body. “No! Joseph! Please! This is not what I want! If this is about the money, I promise I will work harder-” Joseph roughly grabbed my clothes and pushed them into my arms as he violently pulled me towards the door. I begged him to stop, but it was like he couldn't even hear me. My pleas were falling on deaf ears as no matter what I said or did, his grip only seemed to get tighter. “Now, get out of here! I don’t need you here! I don’t want to see your face ever again! I am sick and tired of you for always complaining! Go find another man out there who will work for you! Because news flash? No one will love you!” He grabbed the door handle and pulled it firmly shut. At the same time, the skies were suddenly filled with a loud rumble that echoed through the night, followed promptly by large droplets of rain splattering down from the clouds above. The ground became quickly saturated with water, washing away any dust, dirt and debris that lay along its path. “No…no…no! Joseph! Please! Let me in! I’m so sorry! Please!” I found myself practically crawling up to the door, pounding against it with my fists in desperation. I screamed and pleaded for hours, feeling like a hopeless stray banging on the door, begging for him to let me in. No matter how loud my cries and pleas were or how hard I knocked at the door, he never opened it for me. My energy was being drained from me as my strength quickly dissipated with each passing minute of waiting outside in vain. “P-please, let me in…” were the last words I whispered before slowly losing my consciousness.
