“Can you stop pretending as if you truly hate me? The moment you saw me with my wife, I could see the look of distaste and jealousy on your face,” He said. I laughed, even though his assumptions were true.“You are so full of yourself, it’s embarrassing. I don’t care about your wife much less you. Why on earth would I be jealous of someone I rejected?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. He chuckled and went to walk by me before leaning down to my ear.A chill ran down my spine, feeling his breath against my skin. Oh, God! Have I missed the smug bastard?“Bambi, you didn’t reject me because you didn’t want me, heck you didn’t even reject me. You stood me up because your father told you to, which is exactly why you are standing here right now beet red. Don’t forget, Tesoro.” He walked away, and I turned around, watching him leave. He knew he was right which is why he was so cocky and arrogant. Of course, it hurt a lot to see him with that woman. The heart-wrenching pain and the jealousy was eating me alive. How could I be so stupid to think that after all these years, I would have lost all the feelings I had for him when I was seventeen?

Chapter One: Prologue
Anastasia’s Point Of View 10 years ago Almost every teenage girl’s dream is to get asked out to prom by the guy they like or love the most. It’s my last day at school before graduation. While most girls waited anxiously, I had the perfect guy in my opinion. I am not sure if I am in love with him, but I have definitely been having strong romantic feelings for him. What did I really expect? He is the first and only guy I have ever been with, and we are each other's first everything. Adriano and I have been friends since freshman year and I realized I liked him in our sophomore year of high school. Everyone fits him into the stereotype of the heartless bad boy which is most likely true. He came from a long line of Mafia leaders to the biggest and most dangerous mafia group in the world. Everyone sees him as a threat but with me, I can’t say the same. He treats me with so much care and even if he never spoke to anyone besides his siblings and best friend at school, he speaks to me. Safe to say, I felt pleased that he has only ever been with me no matter how other girls fought for his attention in the most pathetic ways. Tonight is the night. I’m going to university and Adriano chose to attend UCLA with me. It was one of the most selfless things anyone has ever done, and he got into two of his top Ivy League universities. M.I.T and Princeton. He is the brain box of the two of us and I doubt I'd have gotten into UCLA if he didn't help me write my college essay. Staring in the mirror at my appearance, I smiled as I smoothed my hand over my black prom gown. The slit came straight up to my thigh exposing my toned legs and my silver heels. My hair bone straight and pulled into a high ponytail. I heard a knock on my bedroom door and turned to see my mother standing there. She walked in with a sad smile gracing her face as she took in my appearance. Her smile grew, and she walked over to me, giving me a hug. “You look absolutely stunning, Sweetie.” She grabbed my shoulders and looked over the dress. “Thank you, Mom.” I kissed her pale cheek and she sighed before I pulled away. “Adriano arrived?” I asked her and she shook her head. She pulled me towards the bed bench in my bedroom and we sat down. Her smile didn’t reach her eyes and that worries me. “Mom, what is it?” I pressed, staring at her. “Your father um…” She trailed off and ran her fingers through her dark brown hair. “He doesn’t want you to be hanging out with Adriano anymore, and he called over Josh to take you.” My lips turned up in a snarl and I scoffed. “That is not happening. Adriano and I are already going together. What, Dad doesn’t feel good if he isn’t controlling my freaking life?” “Ana, calm down. Josh is already waiting downstairs, and he will be taking you,” She stated and I shook my head. “Mom, this is the one night here I get to enjoy myself the way I deserve. Are you seriously going to rid me from having fun? You of all people know how I feel about Adrian,” I looked at her and tears pooled into my eyes. She stood up and pulled down her dress before cupping my cheeks in her hands. “The decision is final, Anastasia. Your father puts criminals behind bars and Adriano comes from the most dangerous Mafia family. How do you think that will work out for us? Now don’t be selfish and do as you’re told,” She said, and I stared at her in disbelief. Tears rolled down my cheek, and she walked out of the room. I picked up my phone and my silver purse before walking out of my bedroom. As I lit up my phone screen, I tried calling Adriano, but the call went straight to voicemail. My brows furrowed and I called him again. “He won’t answer,” My father said as soon as I made my way down the stairs. “Dad, why did you cancel my date with Adriano?” I asked, staring at my father. “I have already explained that to you countless times. You're heading to college and I will be damned if you end up spending the 4 years around that criminal. He is the heir of the mafia group his father runs, and you just never listen, so I took matters into my own hands. You will not be seeing Adriano Romanov ever again and that’s an order.” His tone was final, and I stared at him with hatred. “You are really going to ban me from seeing him? Someone that I lo—” I cut myself off as tears rolled down my cheeks. “I'm not asking you, and if you so much as think to defy my orders— His father will be behind bars and trust me, he will never get out.” He walked off, and my mother walked out of the living room with Josh behind her. My mother came with her camera and Josh smiled at me. “Let’s take pictures!” She smiled, and I hissed my teeth before walking out the front door. “Anastasia, where are you going?!” She called as I went to stand in front of Josh’s vehicle. Turning to her, she was standing by the door and Josh walked down the steps. “Take it yourself if you want it so badly.” I shook my head and Josh unlocked the car about to open the door for me, but I stopped him. “Focus on driving,” I stated, getting in myself. “I was being a gentleman,” He muttered before walking around to the other side of the car. As soon as he got in, he let the engine warm up before he drove off. I used my face kerchief to pat dry my face, so I didn't smudge my makeup. Josh turned on the radio to some pop song I had no interest in listening to, but I kept my mouth shut. He is one of the sons of my father’s coworkers, and he really annoys me. Of course, at first glance he never does, but he is so pushy and rushes everything. I knew he liked me since middle school and I have been doing a great job at ignoring him, but my father wants me to date a ‘good’ guy. Tsk. As soon as we got to the school, I got out of the car and shut the door behind me. In the parking lot, students were chatting and laughing until my eyes spotted him. He was leaning against the sleek black Audi he owns, talking to his best friend Haze. The moment his eyes met mine, he stood from the car and made his way over to me. Josh looked at me and I looked away from him. Adriano walked over to me in an all-black suit that matched my dress and his silver Rolex glistened on his wrist. “I almost thought you weren’t coming.” He slipped his arm around my waist and pecked my lips, briefly. ‘Ana, remember what your father said’ My subconscious reminded me. I stepped out of his embrace and looked down. “I came to prom with Josh, and he is my date,” I told him and he seemed confused. “What do you mean? I thought we were going together.” His jaws clenched, and I licked my lips, looping my arm through Josh’s. “Like I said.” I looked away from his eyes and he chuckled. “Cool,” He said, masking the hurt pretty well, but his eyes gave him away. He headed back towards the car and got inside. Haze looked over at me before shaking his head and then got into the passenger seat. Tears filled my eyes and I felt my heart break into a million pieces as he drove off, not even sparing me a second glance. Josh’s hand rested on the small of my back and I slapped it away. “Get your f*****g hands off me!” I snapped before turning on my heels and headed towards the school gate. My father said I shouldn’t speak to him again, but I will be damned if I am stuck at prom with someone that I don’t even like. How could he do this to me? How dare him force me to stop speaking to the one guy that I am deeply in love with? How f*****g dare him?!
