Chapter one CHANG SUNG HO’S POV “We did it! We did it!” shouted my longtime friend and business associate Gim Min Joon while rushing towards me with some papers in his hands. “What did we do?” I asked angrily, I never liked people barging into my office unannounced. “We got the contract dude!” he said excitedly as he sat on the office table. I pointed at him and laughed, “Is that what you’re so happy about? Like I said previously, when you do business with me you’ll always get the deal”. He looked a bit bothered by my words, “I can never get used to that irritating pride of yours i***t!” he glared at me. I chuckled and said, “You can now leave if that’s all”. “You know, for a CEO you need to treat your business associates with respect or your company will lose face” he said as he threw the papers at me. “Whatever, please leave now I have work to do” I told him. He stood up and walked towards the door, “Oh, I almost forgot”, He turned around “I told everyone that you planned a celebratory party for them”. “What?!” I shouted. “Yes, it’s at 7pm sharp don’t be late and you are paying” he grinned. “Am not coming” I said adamantly. He laughed and said, “I knew you’d say that, that’s why I told them you personally planned it” He made a pleading face, “If you don’t come as the host, how is the team going to feel?” If I don’t attend they will be happier than when am around, “Am still not coming” “Well, I will tell Aunty to come then”, he said in a low voice. What! “No! Don’t I will come”, he knows Ms. Kim will not let me off, if I don’t go to the party. He smirked, “I knew you’d love to join us” and left Maybe I should go, just this once to the gathering and if I do not go Kim will kill me. (T: N: Ms. Kim is SUNG HO’s biologically mother, will know soon why he refers to her like that) Since the time, I took over the company 6years ago, I have never attended any informal gatherings with the employees and maybe it is time for a change. *TIME SKIP At the party Everyone at the table I sat, seemed tense “Uh... Here sir a glass for you”, employee 1 said as he poured alcohol in a glass and handled it to me. I drunk it all in one go, seeing that the rest followed suit and one by one filled my glass. I don’t even remember how many glasses I had and everything was becoming blurry. Seeing that the atmosphere at my table was heavy, Min Joon rushed over and threw his hand around my neck. He whispered in my ear, “Is this a party or a morgue?” Turned to him, “Uhh…?” With his other hand, he stretched my lips to form a smile, “Cheer up that stiff expression on you face is making everyone nervous dude”. I looked at him with a tangled expression, even though I knew too well what he meant. “At least smile dude”, he said as he continued to stretch my lips to form a shape of a smile. I struck his hands off, “Excuse me for a second”, I said and stood up. As I was walking away from the table, I could hear the employees talking and all at once let out a heavy sigh. “Jeez he’s finally gone”, said employee 1. “I can finally breathe” said employee 2. “Duhh, I felt like I was in the middle of the desert beer never taste that bad”, employee 3 said. “And imagine if he attend all the previous office parties, I don’t even want to imagine it”, said employee 4. “Well I think the CEOs firm expressions are so sexy” said another. And another added, “And he’s so hot and handsome”. Glad they noticed my good looks, “Too bad being handsome is the only thing that is good about him”. The entire table was silent and looked at each other. They all nodded in agreement, laughed and continued talking about how glad they were that I had left. Min Joon ran after me and grabbed my hand, “where are you going dude, are you ditching us?” “Am going to the bathroom, I will be back soon” I told him. He noticed the tense expression I had on and said, “Don’t take what they say to heart” He smiled and patted my back, “You better be back the bill is on you”. “Do I ever get bothered by such comments?” He hesitantly released my hand and headed back to the table. I headed for the bathroom, washed my face but I was still feeling nausea. I had never been good with alcohol but I had to drink because it was the first company celebratory party I ever attended. My stomach ached as a result I vomited, I reached for my pocket and remembered I left my phone back at the table. “It’s all their fault, filling my glass one after the other it was like they wanted to get me wasted and mock me!” I yelled. “I will fire them all and that stupid Min Joon will hear me when I get back!” I cursed at them with all my might till I felt weak in the knees. I sat down, buried my head in my arms as I felt my conscious slowly drifting away. Suddenly I heard footsteps, I looked up and heard a voice. “Are you okay?” The person asked. I couldn’t quite make out the face but the person had a sweet clear and soft voice. He reached out to me, pulled me by the hand and wrapped his hand around my waist. The next think I knew, we were at some place that looked like a garden, I could see some flowers and a fountain. He helped me sit down, gave me water and I felt much better after drinking. “Are you feeling much better now?” he asked. I nodded, as I blinked and let out a heavy sigh. “Why do you drink so much, when you know you cannot hold your liquor?” he asked. “It would seem rude if you don’t drink at a party and you’re the host right?” “You should have told them you can’t drink”. “If I did that, they might have thought I was just been difficult”. “Not really, my mother told me that people understand when you explain to them your reason” “Really?” “Yes" “Maybe people have a hard time because I cannot communicate with them properly” “You! Unable to communicate?!” he asked doubtfully “Yes” I responded. “Why is that?" “It’s because people are scared of me” “Scared of you why?” “They say my face is too stiff, it makes them nervous and it scares them” “I think that is not true because even though you look like you’re in pain mister you look handsome” he told me Does he tell every strange he just met that their good-looking? what an odd fellow. “Thank you for your compliment, I did not know that I was handsome” I said. Though I knew I was not only handsome but beautiful. “Sir! You’re really really truly handsome, even more handsome than Brother Lee from my hometown”, he said happily in a loud voice. Hometown? That explains the accent, he does not sound like he’s from around here. “Okay, thank you and what where you doing at the bar” “Oh! I work part-time there”. “Part-time?” “Yes am a student, studying business management and I hope to one day open my own business?” He is awfully free around strangers, didn’t his mother teach him to shun away from strangers? He kept talking about his friends, family, dislikes and likes. Apart from the i***t Min Joon, my parents and grandparents, no other human being has ever been so free around me. Even the girls who approached me, used to look so tense around me and could not even say what they intended to say.
