Teaching self discipline

I imagine a group of students sitting at a table together.everyone working on their history projects.Ethan sees that Chloe is using the stencil he wants,and she just went across the room to get some markers.Ethan could simply take the stencil , but he knows that in this classroom , the rule is to respect people's things .He also knows how important it is to be kind , and he doesn't want to make Chloe feel angry and upset. So, he waits until she returns to the table and asks, " Could I please use the stencil when you are done with it ?" Everyone gets what they need and class goes on productively.
